With more than 10 years of combined professional communications experience at the congregation, synodical, and churchwide levels of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and in various nonprofits, Catherine and Justin bring a wealth of results-driven expertise in effectively communicating an organization’s mission, vision, and values.

As ELCA members deeply called to this work, they partner with ministries and nonprofits to strengthen communications, support growth, and advance the mission of progressive organizations—with the energy and creativity of young adults.

Catherine is all about connecting people through powerful stories and creative communication. She currently holds the role of Director of Communications and Community Engagement at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sacramento, Calif., and also serves as Communications Director for the 2027 ELCA Youth Gathering. Catherine’s journey has included leading communications and events for the Sierra Pacific Synod, heading up the social media team for the 2024 ELCA Youth Gathering, and steering communications for the Western States Youth Gathering in both 2017 and 2023. Her superpowers include crafting smart social media strategies, building strong public relations, and capturing the moment through compelling photography and storytelling.

Justin Wilson
(he/him)

Justin brings a spark of creativity and a whole lot of strategy to his role as Engagement and Resource Manager for the ELCA Youth Gathering. With experience planning massive events for 16,000+ attendees, he’s got skills in everything from program design to logistical madness. Justin’s the mastermind behind marketing strategy, crisis communication plans, and managing a team of rockstar volunteers. He’s been behind the scenes of the 2022 and 2024 Gatherings and is already diving into planning for 2027 in Minneapolis. Whether it’s brand development, graphic design, websites, or email campaigns, Justin thrives on turning big ideas into reality—and making them look good while he’s at it.
